8BIT

This post is a special dedication to those out there that grew up in the 90s and under the influence of video games. What makes this special to me is the discovery of one of my favorite childhood things, the Gameboy. During the construction going on at my house, I ran into a box containing none other than ALL of my gameboys, which were (in order of release/obtainment) the Nintendo Gameboy (Large Grey), Gameboy Pocket (Blue), and Gameboy Color (Translucent Purple).

They also came with some of my favorite games, such as all the Pokemon games (before the Gameboy Advance Pokemon games), Super Mario Worlds 1-4, and Street Fighters. How many of you remember playing these games at lunchtime and the struggle of blowing into these game cartridges because it somehow kept the game from freezing? Sometimes you would have to pick the little pieces of food and spit from it. And also the many ways of trying to get the last of the juice from your double A batteries before buying new ones? Honestly although the game and systems weren't perfect, that S&@! was still the greatest.

I wouldn't mind giving them away to someone like my niece, just so she could have a similar experience with it. However, there are two reasons that prevent me from doing this. One, these beauties hold alot of senimental value to me, and two, She wouldn't appreciate the value/history that came along with these. Back in the days of playing these with friends in your neighborhood, they were the BEST source of entertainment in its time. She is of the new generation (the generation of smart phones, and tablets) and not likely to like something from almost 20 years ago. Besides, thanks to her parents she is the proud owner of an Ipad, and its obvious an "ancient game system" such as these cannot compete with new school technologies, as well as the various things it can do. Then again, I'm very old fashioned; I played it later that night I found it, and still these things are a great way to kill a couple hours. True it cannot compete, but still you can't beat the classics! Godspeed.
